Operation Theatre

The Operating Theatre, commonly known as the Operation Theatre (OT) or Operating Room (OR), is a critical and sterile environment within a hospital dedicated to surgical procedures and medical interventions. This specialized facility is equipped with advanced technology and staffed by a skilled surgical team to ensure safe and efficient surgical outcomes.

The OT complex consists of 6 functional theatres and an Endoscopy or Bronchoscopy Room. There are different theatres for different types of surgeries such as Ophthalmic/ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecological Surgeries, Orthopaedic Surgeries, Laparoscopic Surgeries, and Septic OT for infected surgery cases.

Each OT is equipped with Laminar Air Flow, Pressure Relief Dampers, Centralized Air Cooling, Antibacterial paint on the walls and Antibacterial tiles on the floors, Hand sensor-operated automatic Hermetically sealed doors, Auto-sensor scrub station, and Hatch Boxes.

The OT complex is practically divided into THREE ZONES – Protective Zone, Sterile Zone & Disposal Zone.

Key Features of the Operation Theatre Ward:

  • Sterile Environment: The Operation Theatre maintains a sterile environment to minimize the risk of infections during surgical procedures. Strict protocols are followed to control contamination, and surgical staff adhere to rigorous aseptic techniques.
  • Advanced Surgical Technology: The OT is equipped with state-of-the-art surgical instruments, anaesthesia machines, monitoring devices, and imaging equipment, allowing surgeons to perform a wide range of procedures with precision and safety.
  • Surgical Team: The OT is staffed by a multidisciplinary surgical team, including surgeons, anaesthesiologists, scrub nurses, and other specialized personnel. Team collaboration is crucial to ensure smooth coordination during surgery and the best possible patient outcomes.
  • Preoperative Preparation: Prior to surgery, patients are prepared in dedicated preoperative areas. This includes reviewing medical histories, obtaining informed consent, and administering preoperative medications. Patients are then transferred to the OT in a controlled and organized manner.
  • Anaesthesia Management: Anaesthesiologists play a crucial role in the OT, administering anaesthesia to ensure patients are comfortable and pain-free during surgery. They monitor vital signs throughout the procedure and manage the patient's overall well-being.
  • Postoperative Recovery: After surgery, patients are transferred to postoperative recovery areas within the OT or designated recovery rooms. Here, they are closely monitored as they awaken from anaesthesia, and any immediate postoperative concerns are addressed by the recovery team.
  • Emergency Preparedness: The OT is equipped to handle emergencies that may arise during surgery. This includes access to emergency medications, resuscitation equipment, and communication systems to ensure a rapid and coordinated response in critical situations.
  • Specialized Surgical Suites: Depending on the hospital's capabilities, the OT may include specialized surgical suites for different medical disciplines, such as general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and more. Each suite is designed to meet the specific needs of the procedures performed.
  • Strict Infection Control Measures: Infection control is a top priority in the OT. Staff adhere to strict hand hygiene protocols, wear sterile surgical attire, and follow established procedures for cleaning and maintaining the operating environment.
  • Faculty - The Operation Theatre complex of Nazareth Hospital is one of the finest Modular OT complexes among the hospitals in the city of Allahabad.
